The Programme Director role was skilfully undertaken by Ms Lindi Nyati-Mokotso from the Department of Health.
After a warm welcome by the School Principal, the school choir led us in a rousing rendition of the South African National Anthem.
Mr Khaya Duze from the Department of Education pinned the FASD Knot onto all the invited guests and educators. The were kindly donated by the Foundation for Alcohol Related Research (FARR).
Mr Richard Jones, on behalf of Rotary and HiSA, explained the significance of the 9th day of the 9th month, as well as the symbolic meaning of the FASD Knot. Mr Jones took the opportunity to announce the 3rd South African FASD Conference that will be held in Kimberley on the 24th January 2015.A one minute silence for reflection was followed by a lovely rendition of the FASD Bell Ringing Rhyme (courtesy of FASfacts) by a group of learners. Each member of the educators and the invited guests also took a turn and ringing the bell.
Following three songs by the school choir, Mr Pieter Moolman from the Department of Education gave a vote of thanks to the three Departments, to Rotary and HiSA, to Grassroots Soccer, to the support from FARR and FASfacts, to the Principal and the educators, and especially to the school children and the school choir.
Once the formal proceedings had finished, Grassroots Soccer presented an item of social theatre warning about the signs and dangers of TB, HIV and FASD. This was followed by a soccer competition involving all the school children.
